About

About RailcarWire

Freight railcars change hands through brokers, lessors, dealers, auctions and word of mouth. Offers are scattered across dozens of websites, store pages and PDFs, so finding the right cars, or a buyer for yours, means checking them all by hand.

RailcarWire does that checking for you. Every week we collect publicly posted freight-car listings, normalize the details that matter (car type, DOT class, capacity, quantity, sale or lease, region and any posted price) and publish one digest showing what's new, what's gone and what people are looking for.

What we are, and what we're not

Frequently asked questions

What is RailcarWire?

A free weekly email and website that rounds up publicly posted freight railcar listings (sale, lease and wanted) from brokers, dealers and auction sites, with a link back to each original listing.

Do you sell or lease railcars?

No. RailcarWire is not a broker and is not affiliated with any source. Contact the seller or broker through the original listing.

Which car types do you cover?

Freight cars and freight-car components: tank cars, covered and open-top hoppers, gondolas, boxcars, flatcars, centerbeams, autoracks, intermodal cars, plus wheelsets and similar parts. We don't cover locomotives, passenger cars or hobby and model items.

How often is it updated?

Listings are collected on a schedule and the digest is published weekly. Last collection: Oct 18, 2026 8:44 PM ET.

Do you show prices?

Only when a source posts an actual asking price. Most freight-car offers are “call for price”, and we skip placeholder prices.

What does RailcarWire cost?

Nothing. The website, the weekly email and the Parts Needs Board are free.

How do I subscribe or unsubscribe?

Enter your email on the home page or /newsletter/ and click the confirmation link we send (double opt-in). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

What is the Parts Needs Board?

A free, moderated board where railcar repair shops post parts they need (for example F-type couplers, end-of-car cushioning units, brake beams or wheelsets) and suppliers post surplus. Contact details stay private; replies go through our form.

Where does the data come from?

Only from publicly posted listing pages of brokers, dealers and auction sites, listed on our Sources page. We don't use proprietary car-registry or fleet databases.

Can AI assistants and tools use this data?

Yes. /llms.txt describes the site and /listings.json has every current listing with its source link. Please credit the original source and link to it.

I own a listing source. Can I change or remove my listings?

Yes. Email railcarwire@mail.grokbot.com and we'll correct, re-credit or remove them, usually within 2 business days.

Listing owners

If you run a source and want your listings credited differently, updated more often or removed, email railcarwire@mail.grokbot.com and we'll act quickly. See our Terms of Use for the correction and takedown process.
